Chris Leeper: Murray State Missionary Intern (@ukchrisl)
My name is Chris Leeper and it seems like the BCM at UK has always been a part of my life. Before I came to college, I met a couple of guys that invited me to come to the BCM. I came to check it out and the rest has been history. The people at the BCM were so welcoming to me and over the years I fell in love with these people and this place. This community helped me realize what it means to truly fall in love with Jesus and the intimacy that comes with following Him. It was through the BCM I was able to meet my beautiful bride Kate as well as many of my closest friends who I know and trust with my life. While I was a student I was able to serve on our leadership as a freshman ministry leader and also as the head of the campus outreach team. I was also able to be apart of the Acts 1:8 Leadership Experience, where God helped me develop into the leader He created me to be. During my experience as a student, I felt the call to ministry from the Lord, specifically to college ministry. Because of this call, I decided to apply for internships with BCMs around Kentucky.
After much prayer, I decided to take the offer given to me by Daniel Berry at UK. My time at UK has been awesome because I love college students. Reaching out to students who don’t know Jesus is one of my passions. I have always felt the college campus as such an amazing mission field, because it seems the entire world comes to you. I really felt this way while I played varsity tennis for UK because we had players hailing from Kentucky to Japan and everywhere in between. Developing young leaders through discipleship is also something that I am passionate about. Growing up as a believer I never had anyone come walk beside to show me what it means to truly follow Christ and I try to make sure that doesn’t happen to any of the students that walk through our doors.
Listening to students about their struggles, their passions, and their walk with Christ is something that I feel is a natural strength of mine. Students come from all different backgrounds and sometimes just need an ear to listen. Christ has used the BCM to reach so many people, and during my tenure here at UK I have gotten to see that reach extended to the ends of the earth. The BCM is doing so many awesome things to impact this campus and I am so humbled that the Lord has allowed me to be a part of what He is doing here in Lexington.
